Shower & Insulation

Our master shower pan was built and installed today. We also got all the exterior walls and ceiling insulated in the garage. It is amazing how after half a day how warm that garage is after being insulated. I think it was money well spent and it will pay itself off after a few years. By doing this I basically made my dog house in the garage. I now have a fully insulated garage with cable, so now all I need is a cot to sleep on. If we are lucky the tile work will start tomorrow. The painters did come back to start some of the fixes that we found over the weekend.

Colors

We have color!

Master bedroom is a darker tan/brown.

Kitchen and main living area is pretty much a neutral beige.

Weston's room is a bluish gray. It will go with his Car theme.

Winter's room is called dragon fruit or you can call it hot pink. Either way Lisa is going with a pink and zebra print theme.

Just another picture of the living room. It looks green but I think that is from all the green paper that is taped up to protect the wood work.

Deck is done

Today the deck guys finished everything on the deck. It looks good and I can't wait to sit out on it and have a few beers. The painters applied some of our paint colors to the edges and then did a ton of spot repairs. Not sure if they plan on working tomorrow but we are pleased with what they got done this week. I am glad they are putting this much work into the painting of the walls.

Edging done but you can see they did a ton of spot repair.

Primer and more

Primer is on the walls! We are getting close to having our true colors up on the walls. We still haven't picked out our exterior colors but now that the weekend is here we will have a few more days to decide. The deck guys worked on adding some handrails and spindles today. They also built one of two porch columns. Should have a completed deck by the end of tomorrow.
Today I finally gave in to the home builder and ordered all the tile. I had a battle a few weeks ago over some pricing and lack of explanations over why my tile cost so much. Well our great superintendent, Gary, finally stepped in and gave me some answers. Not that I liked the answers he gave me but at least it makes sense now. Oh well, I am happy and Nies is still a great home builder.

Very lonely column all by itself. Maybe tomorrow we will see the second one. They will eventually be stained.

More Paint

Today the painters sprayed another coat of paint on the trim and finished painting the doors. While the paint was drying the painters moved to the exterior of the home. They caulked all the seams and some of the low nail holes in the siding. It's a good thing we worked on picking out exterior paint colors today. We should have the colors selected by tomorrow because we wouldn't want to hold anyone up.

The deck got some stairs and a few new posts.

Doors painted.
Here you can see two of the painters working on getting the siding ready for paint.

Deck is up

Today they started working on the deck. We are both very pleased with how it is turning out. The structure is made out of pressure treated lumber and the trim and decking has been done with cedar. The painters put on the first coat of trim paint today. Within the next couple of days we should start to see some color on the walls. We are picking out garage paint colors and exterior paint colors tomorrow. I signed off on the insulation change order today so sometime this week we will have a insulated garage. With he weather being so nice we are moving along to finish up mid March. We can't wait until all this is done. Lisa is ready for a vacation after we move in (from me).

Prep Day

Painters spent the day prepping and priming. Not a whole lot to see today.

Just a bunch of red dots.

Deck Material

The painters primed all the wood work and even got it right this time. Someone delivered the deck material to the house and we are ready for them to start right away. Once the deck is built we can get the patio poured which should be it for the concrete on this house. After getting haircuts today we decided to stop by Lowe's so that I could show Lisa the stone tile I thought we could use for the fireplace. Once we located the tile and dug through a few boxes to see all the different colors and layouts she actually liked it. While there, I happened to notice that the tile I purchased for the kitchen back splash had actually been marked down even more. I ended up getting a credit for the material that I had already purchased which at this point I love getting money back. Overall we had a great day and got some things picked out fro the house.

Stain

Today the painters decided to stain almost everything. To bad some of things they stained were supposed to be painted. I returned some tile today and while I was there I ended up finding a great deal on some glass tile for the kitchen back splash. This tile selection is completely opposite from what we had picked out before. I am all for it but lets see if Lisa will keep it. This glass tile was on clearance so it will only cost a fraction of what we had originally picked out. We also came to an agreement with the painter on upgrading to Sherwin-Williams Duration paint for all the interior walls. This paint better be worth it and from what we have read and seen it sounds like it is the perfect paint if you have kids. We probably won't see any color on the walls until late next week but we are very excited with what has been done this month.

Glass tile that I picked up today. Either we keep this or go back to the drawing board.
Handrail stained.
Bookcases and mantel stained. Still trying to figure out what is going on the walls and hearth.

Range hood is now stained and looking better then ever.
Whoops, this bench was supposed to be painted white.

Paint & Stain

Today the trim carpenters moved out and the painters moved in. The painters started the prep process of getting everything covered and cleaned for paint and stain. They didn't help their cause since someone damaged another cabinet. We are still negotiating paint prices since we can't stand the builder grade crap. The painters are schedule for 2 weeks so they have plenty of painting and staining to do. Soon we will get to see some color on the walls and have everything stained.

Kitchen all covered up and protected.
All the doors and windows were taped and ready for paint.

Day 12 of trim

Wow, we are not done yet with the trim. Tomorrow should be the last day for the trim carpenters since the painters are ready to move in and get started. They ended up taking down the master bathroom mirror frame to rebuild to what we wanted. Lisa ended up adding a project for both me and the trim carpenter. After seeing the granite installed in the kitchen Lisa felt like it needed some corbels to help the eye not see such a huge overhang. I did some shopping today and found 2 corbels at a local store. After seeing both corbels next to the cabinets, Lisa picked out the one that best fit the style of cabinets that we had installed. I am glad this took only a few hours because we need to keep moving forward on the house. The glass was installed in the sidelights today which we both love since it will let in a ton of natural light into the front entry way. The base molding was installed throughout the house. Tomorrow they should finish the mirror trim in the master bathroom and begin cleaning up.

Day 11 of trim

Trim is almost complete. Not only did all the doors go up today but they also got the door casing installed. Tomorrow we are going to see some base molding installed along with all the final details for the trim work. We did get a nice surprise today by having all the granite installed. We went with all under mount sinks since it will make cleaning easier and having two kids that is a good thing.

Coat closet now has trim and doors.
Stairs now have some skirt molding.
Sliding door and transom window are complete.
Half wall has top cap and trim.
Not much different but this is the new door. Still waiting for sidelights.
New kitchen counter tops are in.
Just a different angle.
Kitchen sink.
Master bathroom with our goofy mirror. This will be fixed tomorrow.
